My dad is looking to purchase a tractor backhoe for a small construction company. He would like to know what machine would be better. Thank You!

I would suggest you take a close look at both units.
Kubota makes a good tractor. I would never argue that they don't. And I am sure anyone who purchases a Kubota would be satisfied. However, if you look at the L48, I think what you will find is Kubota takes a compact tractor and adds a loader and backhoe and there you have it. Not alot of difference. If you look at the JD 110 TLB you will find a much heavier "Industrial" unit over the standard 4610. The front axle, the Backhoe and Loader units are all heavier. These are made more for the commercial customer who uses them all day, every day.

With the last post stating what it does I suggest you look real close as Kubota pioneered these mini commercial units 20 plus years ago. The Kubota won't need the extra bottom shield that is a must for the Deere or be on the look out for hydraulic line damage on the 110. ....

If ever there was one too close to call this is it! Yes, Art is right, Kubota pioneered the commercial grade tlb's (B21, L35, L48) and they were the industry standard for small tlb's for years. However, Deere has done something that few makers of cut's do, and that is customer use related research and development. Deere took Kubota's idea and made more than a passing attempt to improve upon it. Deere took the time to listen to customer/user input. I have personally tested both machines (I owned an L35 and to keep peace in the family, let it go to a niece and nephew, it is an excellent machine), and in the limited time I tested them, I'd be a liar if I told you one was better than the other in actual ability to work. Both dig like there is no tomorrow, have powerful self-leveling loaders, and have plenty of versatility with the skid steer bucket system. I do slightly favor the Deere hydraulic spools over the Kubota. The difference in engine output is minimal, both makers' engines are powerful and smooth 4 cylinders. Kubota has the deeper digging depth for its hoe. Both hoes have tremendous swing force on the boom for finishing off. Deere offers an off the shelf thumb for the hoe as an option, as well as a hammer, and a quick attach bucket system. I know Kubota has an excellent hammer, but I'm not sure if they have a Kubota brand thumb or Q/A for their hoe buckets. Both machines have excellent fit and finish and have comfortable turn-around seating to operate the hoe. Both have side mounted engine control panels, just where they should be for hoe work, and both have inching spools for creeping to reposition for the dig. Deere has some bells and whistles based on the 4000 series that the L48 lacks, but they may not be important to you. Complaints I've heard from owners are few; on the Kubota I've been told the hydraulic self-leveling feature of the loader has problems, on the Deere I've been told the hoe doesn't go on and of as easy as they would like you to believe. Both makes have their offerings' origins in compact utility tractors, Kubota's is a bit more "hardened" in its standard offering, while Deere does require a few extras for rough terrain use. Regardless of which one you pick, you should take the time to test each one in a real work condition. It may come down to which dealer you like and what they can do for you on price and service. ....

Some people have reported that the addition of aftermarket thumbs to Kubota backhoes has voided the factory warranty. If a thumb is important to you and Kubota doesn't have a factory offering this may be something to consider. ....

Thumbs are a dime a dozen for most any model you would like. The off make are most often far less money then the major manufacturers are. The warrantee might have more to be read then the obvious as for things that small it would more then likely be a dealer call. ....

I can vouch for the BH90 backhoe (I've got mine on the 4330). Very strong, digs great, and digs to it's rated depth with ease. My soil is very rocky and hard clay, I use a 16" bucket.

My comparison was the 48 backhoe on the deere 4610 - The kubota hoe goes on and off MUCH easier - I really like the attachment system, and it is very solid, yet easy to disconnect.

Anyway, I can't offer much advice on the deere, but I've been very impressed with the BH90 hoe. Lots of clearance too, the subframe is very tucked up in the tractor, a very intergrated unit. ....

Contact the local dealers and let the tractors fight it out. Marketing guides and salesmen are paid to spin as fast as they can. Let the iron tell the story.

Make sure when you try a backfill demonstration that you do it with the booms fully extended to understand the total nature of the hydraulic HP. ....

I would think that the test would be a good one with back filling. To measure out from the pivot point and test at that common distance for both units and to also reach out to it's longest point would also show the added length in reach to assist in faster clean-up. I like the fact that many of the Kubota Excavator attachments go right on the L-48 without any trouble, you know they are built rugged! ....

Very good review and comparisons of deere vs kubota. too bad it is 10 yrs old. What should be added to the review is the problem with cracked bellhousings on the JD 110 TLBs. I went to look at one yesterday and knew where to look and found a crack. Have no idea why they crack but the repair cost is 5 figures! Buyer beware. ....

Hughow, how can I find out where to look for the case crack on the Deere 110 TLB. I’ve always wanted one because I like the size, power and the skid steer interchangeability. I’ve something about the case cracking but really can’t find any details about it. Hoping you can help. Thanks so much.
