Just to inquire if I am the only one to have the Kubota RTV 900 HST fail on them. At 173hrs. Backed out of the shop and then it refused to move...in any range, in any direction. The engine ran fine, no fluid loss anywhere, all cables connected and moved properly.
Had to use the winch to get it on the float to the dealer. Long process.
4 days later the dealer found the HST is finished due to wear on rear plates and seals. Again only 173 hrs. The wife drives it around the property for gardening chores. Never had it 'off road', it hardly gets dirty.
Kubota has agreed to pay for parts and so far partial labor even though it is 6 mos out of warranty. That battle isn't over yet though. I am not a happy camper. This is supposed to be a premium product, (read $$$) and I am discouraged at the quality.
Oh well, maybe it will be good forever after it is fixed. Sure miss it with spring here !!

Jimbo

I believe I have heard of this on other posts. If you look to the right of your screen, you can do a search by topic. ....

Yikes! Even with some financial help, that is going to be an expensive repair.

I was talking last week to the mechanic at the local dealer who had just come back from a factory sponsored class.

The RTV's are not holding up as well as they had hoped. He didn't mention your specific issue but he did talk about drive shaft problems. The real problems have surfaced on ranches where they are used daily like pick-up trucks.

Kubota has also acknowledged that they perform poorly at high altitudes and there are plans in the works to move the air intake location, lower the reverse gearing, make the seats deeper/more comfortable and fix numerous other smaller issues like the gas cap.

Somebody must have been reading my posts. ....

I was wondering if there was a problem, there has been zero contact with me lately about the RTV.

Up until last fall I would get a call a month or more with my Kubota rep. telling me how badly I needed an RTV.

Strange though, the RTV was supposed to be existing hardware in a new configuration, maybe there was some design short-comings in the operating parameters.

Best of luck. ....

We have had ours at work now for about 2 months and have put on just shy of 200 hours. Of course all services have been done by me. Other that what the dealer screwed up and could not fix (note: repaired by me and bill sent) we have seen no problems. It is not babied either remember I work at a land fill now. ....

There was a problem with the drive shafts, that was fixed about 6 months ago and there is a kit to fix sold units if they had problems. Other than that, my opinion is that the machines have been amazingly reliable for such a revolutionaly product. We've probably sold near 100 by now and I can't say we've seen any with issues that where unaddressed by the factory. ....

My sources are telling me that the drive shaft fix is not holding up..... and Kubota is not sure what to do yet to make it right.

I agree that considering the complexity of the machine Kubota has done it better than most other manufacturers could do.

Part of the problem on my part was overconfidence in Kubota's engineering coupled with the assumption that since I was buying a 4wd, I was getting an off-road capable machine.

The RTV is exactly what it is advertised to be... a scooter for a hard surfaced workplace and maybe expandable to a construction site. It is not designed or equipped to go into a true off road setting.

Jimbo... did you use Kubota fluids in the HST or another brand? I would be interested in knowing.

I guess we've been pretty lucky here as we haven't seen any hydro problems out of a couple hundred plus sold. ....
