I was in a large tractor supply store yesterday and picked up a blade for a disc mower. It's designed puzzled me.
It is sharp on both sides but has a twist to it. If it is sharp on both sides how do you use the side that is twisted up? The angle of the sharp edge looked about the same as for a mower blade. Are you able to install it upside down as to the edge's angle and it cut okay?

That is the intension of the blade design. The bevel should be on the opposite side of the blade so that when you flip it the bevel is up. The twist is designed to throw the crop up ward into the conditioning rolls or flails and help to keep the crop from getting entangled. If all you have is a mower with out conditioning the 15 degree twist is not real important. ....

I think I understand what you are saying. So of what value is the second edge being sharpened? If you install is so that edge is the cutting edge the bevel would be down. ....

If they had sharpened the other side on the second edge it would have been able to used it twice.

oneace,
Thank you. Always knew you were a gentleman. I really do appreciate your comments. It does amaze me how often it seems we must tear someone down over nothing. Can we not disagree but do so as gentleman and ladies?
earthwrks could not fully apprecaite my suggestion for a plywood canopy for his tractor since he said price was his main concern.
In all seriousness I found much of his comments rather funny. Never seen anyone sling anything that they did not end up with it all over them self either. Guess for a guy that admits he must keep running in figure 8's he is doing the best he can. LOL
Good Day and God Bless

They are reverseable knives if you don't bend them. They do have a different blade for the rotation of the disc. ....

Art,
Thank you. I sure failed to understand the design I was looking at. To me that is a case of looks like you get two edges but in real life only one.
Earthwrks,
On my end I was totally joking with you. Fully believed you were doing the same.
It was a great lesson I learned you only joke with those you like. So true.

Ken, they joke about us growing stones in our area with the frost heaves every year. With crop rotations the larger rock rakes and systems for removal we have found that they can pick and go about seven to eight years before they need to revisit the field with the rock equipment again and many farmers are able to just reverse the knives when dull. Rather then pick stone we also have some that have just resorted back to normal mower conditioners and changing cutter bars to try to keep up. ....
