My 1997's Suburban's "Check Engine Light" is on. The dealer says the Catylatic Converter needs attention and likey the Oxygen sensors. He says not to worry just yet but watch for a drop off in MPG. He turned off the light, but it was back on in three weeks.

He also says it costs about $1300 to resolve the problem! I've got 155,000 on it and hate to spend that kind of money.

Are there cheaper options to fix this? Does it hurt to run the Burb in this state? Is this a Dealer Only repair job?

IF your oxygen sensors are bad your mileage is already gone. This might be a witch hunt. ....
