You may remember me as diesel_nut from other tractor sites. To tell you the truth I was booted from 1 of them and scolded by another. Some of these tractor sites have become so restrictive it's nuts.
I was pointed to this site from a member at another site.

I have a pretty new GT2554 and had an 1872 for about 6 years.

Welcome to TractorPoint. A lot of folks here are refugees from other sites. Due to the abuse of one individual a few people were appointed as moderators but posters have wide latitude in their discussions. Moderators generally step in when there are personal attacks going on, otherwise it's pretty wide open. Glad to have you here. ....

Thanks for the welcome.

I will tell you of one incident without mentioning the site.

A guy asked why 2-stroke Lawn Boys were no longer available. I responded by saying it was overly restrictive legislation by the EPA.
They considered that "political".

Unbelievable! ....

Ole EW you know better than that, don't consider either of us to be good. But there are many who are.

Hey! Welcome!

Lawnboy, wow i remember thinking how cool they were when I was a kid compared to the Sears Craftsman mowers we always had in my teens. Those Lawnboys and I think even Toros were oil mix as I remember.

Welcome, I used to visit that other site. Long time ago.

Lawn Boy; mine just quit after thirty-two years. Used it at my last place to mow about a half acre of lawn but it has been just a trim mower here. After the drive shafts wore completely bare it was more like power assist than self propelled.

In 2000 I purchased a new Ariens walk behind and used the green machine for backup. That lasted until this spring when the differential locked up. Sooo, I fired up the Lawn Boy and it fired itself right back off. Spark is gone, will attempt trouble shooting this winter. I sure miss the two stroke engines for that application. Now will see if this new Honda will last longer than the Ariens. ....

Stihl has a 4-stroke engine they call the 4-mix that runs on 2-stroke fuel. At the store they were running one and it seemed pretty nice. ....

All four strokes will run on premix. I've gotten quite a few 4-strokes out of the DEEP woods of Colorado on premix from a 2-stroke bike.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Seems like a nice place and nice people.

"that site"......pretty funny. ....

What's unique about the Stihl 4-mix is that it's a 4-cycle engine that is lubricated by the 2-stroke premix fuel, there is no need for oil changes. Maybe other manufacturers have similar engines but this is the first I've seen. ....

Ok. Now I see said the blind man.
That is very interesting.

So. No oil changes but you have to use pre mix. 6 of one half dozen of the other :) ....

Except you don't have to dispose of old oil. You get to burn it like God intended :) Well, I guess you could *always* burn it but it's nice to get extra work out of it.

True. I hate disposing of my oil down the drain next to my house. Before any 'enviro' types have a stroke.......I don't do that.......too often ;)

I know what you mean. Disposing of used oil is a big PIA, especially when you drain 14-15 quarts out of a 7.3L engine. ....

We burn the old oil to heat the shop, nice and neat, no mess and 'free' heat.

It's really quite simple to make a pretty efficient used oil burner to heat a home shop too if you're half handy with some basic tools and you're there to monitor the burn rate.

Best of luck. ....
