I have a BX2200 with 40hrs on the meter. Would it be safe to change with synthetic at this point or should I wait till over 50hrs?

rossco,
If it were me, I'd wait till the next oil change. Your rings need time to seat so (to be on the safe side) I'd use conventional oil one more time.

I agree with Billy. I'm not convinced that rings are fully seated at 40-50 hours. ....

Should I wait till 70-75hrs for synthetic? For only 2.6qts of oil, I think I can afford the best lubrication available. Just want to be reasonably sure the engine has broken in. Thanks

Change the oil at 50 hours, using the conventional. Then on your next scheduled oil change, go with the synthetic. ....

Billy and kwschumm, thanks for your advice. Kwschumm, I was looking at your pictures. Were you hurt when the Deere turned over on its side?

rossco, thankfully neither the tractor or myself was hurt. The ground gave way under the left side and it slid slowly down the hill. The loader arm contacted a tree and slowly pushed it over, and the ROPS and seatbelt did their jobs properly. Once we got it winched back up I found there's not a scratch on it! Only problem was a loose battery cap fell out and one cell lost some acid. Had to wash that down good. After that experience I know I'll never use a non-ROPS tractor for anything serious. ....

Sounds like you were fortunate. I bet you are extra careful after that.

I'm especially careful on THAT hill. It turns out that hill is the soil that was excavated from our basement. It's never been compacted so it gets REALLY soft when it's wet. ....
