I have a Ford 930 A finish mower and was wondering what grade shear pin bolt I should use in the universal joint on the end of the mower drive shaft that connects to the PTO of my Kubota?
Thanks for the help.

Not sure but my quick thought is a common grade bolt which is grade 2 or 3. Then the bolt that is suppose to be used there could be partly cut to help it shear. I would spend the money on one to buy it from a NH dealership to be sure. ....

Depends upon the mower width. The 48" takes a 5/16"-18 x 2-3/4" Grade 2 that you can buy at most hardware stores. The 60" and 72" take part #82066 (Screw, Cap, HS, 3/8"-16 x 2-1/2" ) which probably should be obtained from a New Holland dealer. The shear bolt for the 48" is secured with a conventional hardware store lock washer and hex nut. The other two stipulate a self-locking flange nut, also usually a hardware store item.

I can't remember the exact pattern that the belt runs but that covers the blades with a slip point. I believe that the shear bolt would only cover the gearbox. For the heft of the spindles I'd stay light on the shear bolt just in case but you shouldn't have issues with them shearing! ....
