I am thinking about getting a JD 4100 series tractor. Does anyone know if it would handle a 72" finish mower?

GM;
The first compact tractor I ever demoed was a Deere 4100 with a rear mount rotary cutter. I don't remember the size of the cutter, but the poor little 4100 was overwhelmed. I think the PTO horsepower is something like 16 or 17 HP.
That's probably enough to run a mid mount mower, but that's about it. It just isn't big enough to do much else.

Yes you said that you where thinking about a JD Tractor 4100. Yes it will work with a 72"finish mower because I have a 870 John Deere tractor and that what I use behind it to mower about 2 1/2 acre. The 4100 Tractor has about 40to50hp and if you go to Tractor data.com you can see about the hp and what it will work with. ....

For what it is worth, I have a 27 hp Kubota and it handles 72 inch rear finish mower very well. As long as grass does not get ahead of me and it is then slow down. Would not want any less HP for that size deck. ....

First.... a 4100 has 20 HP, not 50..........

And....... I have in front of me a spec sheet from Deere published about 10 years ago.

It says a 4100 will handle a 72 inch rear finish mower.

Also .....you may want to read my post on potential problems with your front axle. ....

Here is a BIG correction......... I just got the paperwork from Deere and the 4100 is NOT on the list of models with problem axles.

I will post the models involved under a separate heading. ....
