Hello,
I have a business in Kansas and one of my customers has a AgraCat 2940 Super 4wd with 10 hours on it. It's never been sold. He used to be a dealer before he became disabled. Anyway....he has installed some options on it such as grill guard, spring seat, gauge upgrade and front weights. I realize that AC is bankrupt and parts can be had from Jinma as it apparently is the same as a JM254. So here is my question. I can purchase this tractor for $5,500. After some bartering on some things he needs from me I would effectively pay about $4,000. Is that a great deal? A good deal? or should I stay away from it. I have 12 acres and horses and need a tractor to do some light dirt work, mowing etc. etc.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Edwin

I personally wouldn't have done business with AgraCat on a bet, but I did have a pair of JM254s from another retailer around the time AgraCat was still in business. I paid $5600 at the time, but the "upgrades" of which you speak were included in that price. That would suggest that particular 2940 was a barebones version. Since AgraCat is tango uniform for several years now, I'm guessing the tractor isn't likely newer than a 1999-2000 model.

Especially since you're not mentioned anything about warranty at the asking price, I'd personally would start with a half price offer (from original retail): $2800.

There would be no warranty since AC is bankrupt and his sales/service business is now closed. He purchased the tractor from AC in August of 2002 as he still has the receipt. I have spoken with several dealers in the area and a new tractor comparable to this one is $8,000 or more. I personally am more concerned with the overall reliability and performance. Of course the local Kubota, New Holland, John Deere dealers all say the AgraCat, Jinma and the like are junk. I wouls expect that from someone who is trying to sell me a tractor for 12 to $15,000.
Thanks for the reply....I really appreciate the input.
Hoping to hear more!

Edwin, if you can get that tractor for about $ 4,000.00 cash after your bartering I think that would be a fair to good deal, these tractors are great if you don't mind turning a wrench every now and then, parts are no problem we have a large supply as well as a few other larger dealers. They are simple little machines that will work hard for you at a reasonable price. There are several message boards with plenty of members to help you out with any questions or concerns. Good luck on your purchase

I should qualify that price figure I gave you Edwin. AgraCat themselves charged a helluva lot more than $5600 for that tractor - which is why I went to another retailer. So the $2800 I recommended you offer is based upon half of what I paid, not half of what the seller may have paid AgraCat. If memory serves, I think AgraCat's cash price for a 2940A back then was ~$7000

I have a farm pro 2425 or a Jinma. I have read alot of post where Jinma was junk. Mine digs, plows, moves dirt pulls trees and etc. I made a good deal new. 4wd, FEl, agtires,$8,995. I have had very few problems some i caused first time owner. When you get a tractor of any kind you will have to turn wrenches. Search through these post and you will see. I have 150 hrs on mine, Affordable has parts $4,000 does not seem unfair. ....

OK so here is another question: If I pay $4,000 for the 2940S and then another $3,000 plus for a koyker 160 loader (the loader is really the whole point of buying another tractor)then I am at 7 grand. Apparently not too far from a new tractor. I have seen Jinma 254's with loader's for as little as $7,700 on Ebay from dealers in Oklahoma and Texas. Trying not to be a pest here. Just trying to get this right the first time.
Thanks again!

I bought new from a dealer as a whole unit. Without a warrenty, service, parts, manafacture backing and used I would have to get a very good deal with substanual savings. You now know all I know. ....

I think you're starting to answer your own question Edwin. But I'm a little confused by your use of "Super" and 2940"S". AgraCat sold a 2940A, a 2940T, and a 2040I. The "A" was the basic tractor - no sprung seat, basic gauges, no grill guard. Pretty sure front and rear weights should have been standard though. The T model and I model were just stepped upgrades. Based upon your description, it sounds like this is the entry level A model

Edwin, the ones you see on E-bay do not have Koyker loaders, you can put a ZL-20 chinese loader on for less. The Koyker is the way to go.$ 7,000.00 for a tractor with a good loader is a good buy, about a 3,000 saving off of retail. These tractors have not changed much other than cosmetics, shuttle shift,1-piece gauges, rounded fiberglass fenders, 1-piece flip up hoods. For what you are going to be using the tractor for it should serve you well.We have a hard time keeping them in stock at the retail price, and used ones or trade in's don't last but a few weeks at best.

Since SG's otherwise occupied, I'll take the liberty of answering for him. Jinma is the trade name that accounts for the largest percentage of China's tractor exports. Once arriving in other countries, they're either marketed as Jinmas - or rebadged under a reseller's logo. In America, you'll find Jinmas under decals proclaming GoldenHorse, AgraCat, FarmBoss, EmeryBuilt, IronHorse, Nortrac, FarmPro, TractorPro, and probably several others I've missed or forgotten.

Jinmas are not to be confused with Foton, KAMA, TaiShan, TayShan, DongFeng, et cetera. These others represent minority Chinese trade names - also often rebranded, adding yet more confusion to the Chinese tractor name game.

SG and Greg,

I had the wrong Farm. I was thinking Farmtrac and did not think it was Chinese.

Knew it did not look like it was compare to all Chinese tractors I had seen. (okay about 3 in person)

Thanks, ....

Greg,

I know things change but the Long were made in Europe a few years ago. I was told today FarmTrac was made in India. Their web site is not 100% clear but it is an Indian owned company. They note they have plant in US and name the few other companies that do. They did not say they tractors were made here.

Are you saying Long and Farmtrac are the same? The company that owns Farmtrac bought a company in NC named Long that built some farm equipment (own some) but I don't think they had any relation to the Long tractor. Of course it is a changing world. ....

Greg,
I refer to the tractor in question as a Agracat 2940 Super because the owner says it is a 2940 Super. When I initially started researching the deal I found many references to the "super" model. As an example if you look at the loader search on Koyker's web site after entering Agracat as the manufacturer it list's the Super as one of the model's. They also have a picture of one there with the 160 loader installed. I cannot tell you what the differences are between the model's. I wish I knew.

Update!
I bought the tractor today. Same price as I mentioned earlier but with a twist. He is throwing in all his Agracat spare parts. All brand new in the box! Just a few of the parts I saw were a new all in one electrnic gauge package, Hydraulic Pump, Injector Pump, etc. as well as the Agracat Service and Parts manuals. So I think I did ok.
Thanks again guys.

KT -- FarmTrac is a importer/broker/dealer who buys small LGs from LG in Korea, and resells them as his compact line here in America. He buys the larger tractors from Escort in India, and resells them in his 5-6-7 lines of utility tractors. If I'm not mistaken, the "former" AgraCat guy is now doing FarmTracs.

Edwin - my AgraCat price list identifying the A/I/T models is dated 2003, so I'm guessing that your "Super" model must be from an older line. I no longer have AgraCat documentation prior to 2003, so your guess that it's a 2002 model may explain why I don't recognize the "Super" model. At any rate, it sounds like it corresponds with the entry level A model from the 2003 price list - with a few after market goodies added on.

Greg and SG,

I had the Farm Pro and Farm Trac missed up. The Farm Trac dealerhsip I know does not sell the Farm Trac compact so he may not be aware of them being made in Korea as that is not his product line.

Whether I get a product line missed up or if all are built in China or such, does not affect how I respect anyone.

BTY, I have only owned Red and Orange. Using the pumpkin process I may get a green one, one day. Wait, have a green Gator. That is enough green.
