Hi there, I own an older 1996 4x2 Gator and the engine runs great but recently when braking there's a loud noise. Noise isn't high pitched, kind of a deeper sound but definitely loud.

The brakes seem to be work fine, just the loud noise when doing so.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks, your help is appreciated.

They have wet brakes so your transmission fluid my be contaminated. Change oil and us John Deere Low Viscosity HyGard (TY2200 is a gallon). Other brands of hytran fluids tend to cause brake chatter. This cured my brake chatter. Mine would make noise right before it comes to a stop. Hope this works. ....

This is exactly what's happening, thanks for the reply.

Is the HyGard product an oil or transmission fluid? Do you recommend changing both the oil and transmission fluid?

If I have a hard time locating this product locally, do you know where I can purchase it online?

Thanks again. :)

You need to change the oil in the transmission. The brakes run in the oil in the transmission. The John Deere Low Viscosity HyGard can be picked up at any John Deere dealer. The brake chatter is indicative of poor quality or contaminated transmission oil. This information is in the trouble shooting section of the manual and the how-to preceures are in the maintenance section. ....
