Ok here is my problem. The passenger side seal on the 4x4 differential is leaking fluid. so i was wondering if anyone has had the 4x4 axle shaft out, and if there is a retaining ring or if the shaft just slides out. any help would be apperciated.
Thanks
Tim

There is a small ring on the shaft that holds it in place somewhat, but to remove it you pull the axle out and overcome the holding power of the ring. Same goes for reinstalling, just push it back on. ....

You don't have to remove the strut. Just pop the tie rod and pull the hub out far enough to get the axle free behind the strut. When you pull it out you are going to loose some fluid, it's hard to catch, it runs all over everything. The refil is on the driver side of the housing, just fill until it runs out the hole. Have fun. ....

That is good to know about the fill plug. I have a bad seal on the passenger side and have to change it so the fluid level is low. I am also taking the chance to replace a torn cv boot on the axle so two birds with one stone.
Thanks again
