Would it be feasible to add a mid PTO to a 790 for a mid-mount mower?

What would it cost?

thanks

Brian

You should be able to have a mid pto installed for under $400. Cheaper if you do it yourself. ....

The Mid pto Kit: BM17994 MID PTO KIT, 670/770/790
is 398.00 USD.

It liked like there was 2 different kits based on the SN of the tractor. ....

Have your priced out the MMM? I stayed away from one because they where very expensive 3,000 Plus.....

As far as doing it your self I'm not sure, the parts come with decent destructions, and if you have time and a full tool box, why not... I would not do it myself if the tractor was still under warranty I wouldn’t want to goof up a gear or something and it not be covered....

When you added the Mid PTO I know that you have to drain all 4gals of the tranny/hydo fluid. That alone would steer some people from doing it...

As far as the mounts for the MMM, call your dealer...

I knew the mmm were expensive, but I was thinking in the $1700 range though - boy was I wrong LOL .. This is forward planning on my part, but was thinking I wanted a MMM instead of a rear finish mower.. I have the 790, but dont use it to do finish mowing right now, but in the near future probably will..

thanks for all the advise

Brian ....

I was in the same boat, I did how ever get the Mid pto just because i could get it now, and it make the resale possably easier.

I have the LX5 Rough cut mower and i have actualy mower the lawn with it if i didnt want to switch to the finish mower.

I did get the fronter 1072 rear discharge mower also.. sweet cut, looks like a golf course... any way good luck.. ....

I have a Frontier 1060 (60") rear discharge grooming mower for my JD 790. It does a good job and is easy to use once you get the feel for it. Just as the wings "grow" when taxiing in a turn in an airplane, the mower "grows longer" in a turn. As you gain experience and get braver you will be able to mow very close to obstacles that wives insist on placing in your path. I have not knocked down the house or mowed down any of her plants yet so it must be pretty easy to use. ....
