Another post about used Jd tractors-Thanx for your info and patience- My question is what type of items should I be looking for when I make a visual inspection of a used JD 1070 tractor ? I hope to be looking at a used 1070 soon and wondering what type of items to visually inspect on the tractor. As I have mentioned before I'm looking for a used tractor for tillage on ten acres is there another tractor other than the JD 1070 that you would recommend and why? Looking to keep to a used JD though not over 10k? Thanx

WOW can't believe no one replied yet.

1st I'd look at the sheet metal is it all dented showing someone not to particular about tractor.
2nd Look at any areas that should be greased has it been. Not just fresh grease either.
3rd do they have maintenance records.
4th look at all fluids for contanimation
5th tires have they been abused spun cut
6th start how easy smoke? does it clear up. hours on meter.
7th clutch free travel? or is it hydro? does it shift smooth does it move smoothly no grabbing or jerking.

Good luck in your quest. Those tractors were made over a number of years. I saw none under $10,000 ....

Harvey pretty well covered things except is it a four wheel drive or two wheel drive? If it is a two wheel drive, I'd wait for a 4 wheel drive unless it is WAY under the market.
I've never owned a 1070, but a couple people I know who do say they are bulletproof. I don't think any of the 1070's were hydros, a 9 speed manual shift I think.
Frank. ....
