Go BottomFront axle gear case leaking

Hello,
I'm brand new to the forum. I have a kubota B1750HST 4WD. I've had water in my front axle gearcase twice now. Found because it froze and the wheel won't turn. The first time i just drained the case and replaced the oil. Now I'm convinced there's a leak. It seems to be leaking right at the rotation point between the lower and upper halves. I have the thing torn apart but I can't figure out how to separate the upper half from the lower- I'm guessign there's a seal in there that's shot. Can anyone help?

If you go to www.messicks.com they are a comprehensive source for parts for many tractors including Kubota. I'm not sure they have Kubota parts diagrams but they do have New Holland. And you can order online too. I have used them over my local dealer many times. ....

Thanks- I checked out that site. Interesting stuff. A local dealer has faxed me some pages out of the service manual with some diagrams. I'm going to take some more thigns apart tomorrow! ....

Nah-not driving through standing water at all. I bet it's been in there since last winter. I use the tractor to plow/move snow, and it sometimes cakes up pretty good around those front axles. At least that's my theory, because I don't know how else that much water would get in there. I'd say there was half a pint in it. ....

It's condensation from heating up the front axle clearing snow, then when it cools off it sucks in the snow that is packed around the vent.

Murf makes sense. In my offroading days at the beginning of the day when everything was still cold, we used to put a child's balloon over the vents of the axles and transfercases and seal them tight. As the oil and air temps increases the balloon expands. This keeps water from being sucked in between the seals when mudding if the vents were completely sealed, and kept them from blowing out when everything got too hot. ....

The condensation theory makes sense. I finally got the thing taken apart. One of the oil seals was ripped around about half the perimeter. About 8 dollars worth of parts on order, then i get to put it all back together- hopefully before our first big snow dump. I'll be sure to clear the snow off around the axle cases each time.

Murf's point is a valid one! The rip could also be causing some of the problem.
It's for that reason that in the northeast if you are going to be changing to synthetic oil you really need to put a lot of hours on your tractor in a year to justify because it should be changed yearly do to the condensation.
Many people don't put enough hours on to challange the ability of a base oil. ....

Well, I used to use the tractor all the time- I had 8 acres or so that I mowed with it along with using the FEL all the time. Now I'm on less than a third of an acre- i look pretty ridiculous mowing with it! Four swipes and its done, so I don't use it much other than snow removal. I just picked up my parts, and I'm headed out to put it all back together- the day after the nor'easter and a few hours with a shovel. Perfect timing! ....
