I'm new to the tractor life and have a newer TC24
which I'm using a brush cutter on.

While using it this weekend, the 3-point hitch lift arms stopped working.

I don't know where to look for repairs.
Do the lift arms use a sheer pin for over-load protection?
Is it internal to the lift mechanicals?
I'm fair mechanical and could make medium repairs myself.
Otherwise if it involves press fit bearings and splitting cases, it's off to the dealership.

If this is a sheer pin problem, how do I keep this from happening again?

The rotary cutter is not that heavy.
I don't understand why it broke in the first place.
When using the cutter should the 3-point hitch be completely lowered to the full down position and not
anywhere inbetween?

Thanks for any help.

Not sure if aything is really broken. When you mave the rocker level the 3pt arms do not move?

If that is the case most likly the hydo speed drop lock is on. I have a JD and mine is a round screw wheel just in front under the seat.
Check that first. ....

Sorry about the specifics,
The arms do not move up or down by using the control lever.
I can lift and drop the arms myself by hand.
Little or no resistance. ....

It sounds like your flow control valve is closed.

Look for this in your manual.

A flow control valve allows you to adjust the drop rate of the three-point mounted implement ....

I checked the control valve and tried to raise and lower the lift arms and nothing happened. I turned the control valve to several positions and nothing happened.

I checked the hydraulic fluid levels and they are okay.

Any other suggestions out there?

What mechanisim actually raises and lowers the arms?
Is there an internal hydraulic cylinder or some sort of a gear driven device?

Are there any on-line exploded parts diagrams of the lift arms and mechanicals?

Thanks for your help. ....

There is an internal cylindar of sorts.

do you have a front end loader?
if so does it move?

is it hydro or gear?

When you try to raise the arms is there any strange nosies, sounds?

try it with the RPMs all the way up and is there any noise?

I'm wondering if there is something keeping held down. If there is a noise coming from under the seat the relief valve my have something wrong/

Is it under warrenty?
let me know ....

Are all of you Filters tight? If it is not making any unusual noises when you try to lift you have a hyd. problem some where. Do you have a loader? Make sure the diverter valve located on the right hand side down by the brake pedal is in the 10 o'clock position or the 2 o'clock position depending on whether you have a loader or not. If you have a loader make sure that the joy stick is not sticking in an open position as this would not allow any fluid to bypass to the 3pt. ....

The loader works fine in all positions with no noises.
I'll have to check the diverter valve for the 10 and 2 o`clock positions.

Thanks ....

Are you sure the 3-point control lever is still attached? If it is loose on the shaft it is mounted on, you could be moving the lever but not the valve it controls.

Otherwise, not an easy fix. By the way, any normal 3-point hitch doesn't have down pressure. In any position you can manually raise the lift arms.

You don't have a draft control on that tractor, do you? The first time I used a tractor with a draft control, it had me totally buffaloed for a while.

Good luck,
Bill ....

Believe it or not, but I figured it out!!
I had a bad quick-disconnect on one of the loader hydro. lines.

I don't full understand the how and why, but the way I discovered it was to switch the diverter valve to the 10 o'clock position and the arms worked.

When put back to the 1 o'clock position the arms stopped working.

I then pulled the disconnects apart and started inspecting and cleaning. One of them was stuck closed and would not connect fully. Once replaced, everything worked fine.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Thanks ....
