Well I don't know about the Landpride being the best tiller on the market, but I'm sure it's a fine machine. I use a Befco HD tiller and have been very pleased with it's performance. I till about 45-50 gardens a year, spring and fall and have never had a failure. I have used this unit to till whole yards to redo lawns and it has never missed a beat. I am looking like you at a new larger unit. I have looked at the KMC 60" , the Loftness 60" and the Woods 60" but I still like the Befco HD T40 or T50 series. The Loftness is interesting because it is super HD and it's tines are in a sprial pattern. They say it contacts the ground better and not as much jump. remember that CT Farm and Country sell befco Tillers as does Tractor supply. They have excellent prices on the units. Good luck and let me know what type of use you have in mind, maybe I can help some more. Scaper ....

I bought a Deere 550 tiller. Seemed to be the most heavy contructed tiller of all the ones i have seen. They are pricey though. For light work or infrequent use you might look at a landpride. ....

Mike,I looked at the John Deere 550 tiller, and one dealer was asking $2400, another quoted the tiller at $2050. Are these prices about what you were quoted?ThanksDaWayne ....

If you plan on using it in the garden I would buy the Troy Built 7-8 hp model. You can plant your garden on 30 inch rows and use the tiller all year. The large tiller you are looking at will not fit down the rows. We fall plow our garden and go over it in the spring with my wife's 7 hp Horse model with no problems. I just changed the tines this spring for the first time in 9 years but I admit I should have done it last year. Our garden is approx 75' x 100', is use to be bigger but we are cutting back. The tiller you want is great for big jobs if it takes out your tire tracks but is no good for garden maintenance. Remember bigger is not always better. Good luck ....

I have had my 8 HP Troybilt tiller for 13 years, I would not have anything else! All you got to do is walk beside(don't walk behind it as your shoes will be filled with the 8" of loose dirt you will be mired up in) and guide it.But I do suggest that you make the rows wider than the tiller as plants seem to grow better in well tilled soil. ....

I have a 1973 Troy Built tiller, built like a tank and works great. It has the only Tecumseh ( all cast iron ) engine that I have found to be worth keeping.
If You are working up new ground for a garden, I would reccomend using a regular plow or large 3 point tiller for the first plowing. If you have hard soil the walk behind tillers will take several passes to work up new ground. Much easier to plow first with a larger riding type of machine :)
