What should I budget for a basic 72" standard duty box blade? I see Woods make a nice model, and I think the quote was around $750. Any other brands I should ask my John Deere dealer about? Seems like they always shoot me a high price first, and try to stick it to me.

Buying it for a JD 3520 (37hp, 4wd). Using it for grading lawn on new house, and maintaining driveway. General, light-duty use.

I'm no expert, but I have had excellent results from my 6' box blade made by Abby Manufacturing Company. I have used it extensively with no damage other than some user-induced bends in the scarifiers (which were straightened for $10 total at the local machine shop.) It cost $385 plus sales tax.

I paid somehwere around $475 for a King Cutter 72" three years ago. I have put it through you-know-what. The cutting edges are still sharp and in very good condition. Never bent a scarifier. I would strongly suggest getinga hydraulic top link which will make the box blade act like nothing you've used. Also, consider welding a short piece of 2" sq. receiver hitch tube to the back side of the blade box. Then you can install a trailer hitch ball or anything using a 2" tube--such as a vice on a pedestal/upright, etc. A trailer hitch ball on the rear is great as an attachment point for a chain when dragging a length of chain-link fence around to final-groom it. ....
