I'm looking to build a firewood proccesor. Has anyone done this? Or have one that you could share pros and cons about? Pictures showing details of construction would probably be the most helpful, but any info would be great; I'm you would be so kind. Thanks.

Here's one that I thought was a good idea, but Patu stopped production. See link below and click on Wood splitting Machine.

Well, not just a splitter, but a machine that you drop a log(s) on bunks at one end and comes out the other cut to length and split. The operator controls the operation from one control station. ....

I've been working on exactly such a beast for over a year now.

There's more to it than you would first think, but then I am using a non-conventional method, i.e. no saw to reduce the wood into pieces.

Best of luck. ....

Buy a log splitter and get the work out. A wood processor is just not worth the HUGE cost unless you sell LARGE volumes of firewood. I mean along the lines of 100 cords or more per year. ....

Firewood processors are extremely expensive for what you get--I looked at an entry-level, bare-bones one for about $15K. Takes a lotta wood to make up the cost! Find some big, strong high school kids and tell them they should PAY YOU for getting a work out! If you put it that way to 'em, getting paid for the work is like getting paid to go the gym! ....

BTW, including buying a new engine & pump and using a bare minimum of 'recycled' (used) parts I already have in inventory, I figure mine will cost about $2k. plus a bunch of hours cutting, welding and designing.

Best of luck. ....

If your looking to build a firewood processor, parts are available at the surplus center.com for pumps, hose, motors, exc and northern tool.com for the same.my son makes these units and a lot of time goes into them,a good plan is needed from auto load or manual loading the chain speed along with the chain saw bar to cut the length of wood, 10 H.P. motor is the smallest, you need to have power to run the hydro- motor along wit cutting, and moving the tree length log along, you need a good plan. ....

Did you build a firewood processor? I have looked and all are very expensive unless you want to get into the business and are close to a major city. I would certainly consider building one with on farm treasures. Need to harvest about 200 ash tops that were cut last spring before the ash bore came in from Mich.

Does anyone have any good plans? ....
