My father passed away almost 2 years ago, and he had a 1946b john deere, which as women we have no idea how my dad started it, if there is a key or what we have to do to get it running. We are planning on selling it, but have to get it out of the garage first. If anyone can explain how to get this tractor started, it would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Did you ever get a response or help with that tractor? It has been a long time. Where are you located? ....

More or less in this order.
1. Make sure tractor is NOT in gear & block wheels if ground not level.
2. Set the pulse on the magneto. (this retards the timing for the start.
3. Turn on the fuel at the petcock on the fuel bowl.
4. Set throttle about 1/4 to 1/3.
5. Firmly grab hold of the flywheel on the side of the tractor and give it a good spin counter clockwise.
The above applies to the running servicable B and takes into account my CRS. If the engine is stuck or has been setting for a long time; I would recommend that you ensure the engine is free and turn it over by hand with the flywheel many times to ensure it is free and primed good with oil first and then attempt the start.
Good luck! Those are neat machines! ....
