Hi -- I'm thinking of getting a Ventrac 4200 with the Kawasaki engine. I just had a Demo the other day - the dual wheel version handled the back of my pond dam (about 30 degree slope) with tough cut. The tractor slid sideways someimes, but showed no sign of tipping. It was getting late, so they said they would bring it back for me to drive on other parts of my property.

I have 10 hilly acres and a 1 acre pond to take care of. I don't believe a Deere or Kubota 4WD Sub-compact would handle what I need to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

B.K. Brown

Hi,

It said that there is one reply to my earlier message -- I don't see the reply???

Second (finish of 1st) demo tomorrow morning. hope I'm not making a mistake thinking about Ventrac instead of a 4WD Kubota or Deere Sub-Compact. ???? $26000 with the attachments I want. ....

What is out there that will handle my situation for less?

I went with the Kawasaki because the Briggs Vanguard has not been proven yet and briggs has a reputation for being a good engine, but cheap plastic external parts that wear or break.

I'm open to suggestions before I decide. ....

For that kind of money can't you get into a Toro Groundsmaster or other front mount diesel mower?

Air-cooled gas motors are not my favorites, from people I've talked to, before I bought my Kubota, Kawasaki doesn't have any better rep than the others.

I don't know much about that kind of equipment, but I see diesel front mount machines doing steep (looking) side hill action fairly often. Have you tried one of these? ....

I need to do more than just mow -- I'm getting a dozer blade, excavator scoop, snow blower, spreader, dual wheels, weights and more. The Deere sub-compact 4115 would be more than $26000 with the same attachments and would be less HP and not as stable on slopes --- The Kawasaki is water cooled ---- I'm still open to suggestions. ....

Don't you think that comparing the Ventrac to a larger JD Compact 4115 is apples and oranges? Wouldn't the 2210 be a better comparison, a "sub-compact." Similar CG, weight (1500 lbs.), power (23 HP diesel) etc.

27 HP gas would equate to a 20-22 HP diesel as far as usable power is concerned, that is what I've read here before. (with alot less fuel too)

My BX2230 Kubota (23 HP sub-compact) with FEL, front Snowblower, 54"MMM, Grass Vac and box blade was less than $16,000. I think the JD is would be very comparable $.

I don't know your complete situation, so I'm just trying to make a suggestion which could save you a bunch of money. ....

The 4115 is still on the sub-compact frame -- I could check out the other tractors and will before a final decision.

I have some slopes that are 30+ degrees and the Ventrac handled them across the slope - it slid sideways a few times, but showed no sign of tipping. I would not attempt the side slope approach, but I have a hard time seeing the Deere or Kubota doing the things I will be attempting. I hope I can find a Deere or Kubota dealer that will demo their tractors. ....

I thought the 4000 series was a "compact" tractor like a B series Kubota (larger wheels and tires), where the 2000 series was a "sub-compact" like the BX Kubota or TZ New Holland. ....

Small-Chassis Tractors
The 4010, 4110 and 4115 pack big-tractor features like oil-cooled brakes, true category 1 three-point hitches, high-performance hydraulic systems and standard four-wheel drive.
4010 4WD Compact Tractor (18 hp) 4110 4WD Compact Tractor (20 hp) 4115 4WD Compact Tractor (24 hp)

Also looking at Deere X585 -- just don't know if it will handle all I want it to do. ???????

Prices I got were:
2489 60" mower -- 2549 Tough Cut -- 3479 Versa-Loader

8517 for those 3 -- I didn't price the sweeper, but that price is right in line with what I got.

The Ventrac just seems more capable for more uses on hilly ground than a standard tractor. ....
