The Tractorpoint Site was unavailable from about 7PM last night until about 11:30 am this morning. The issue is that we are using up too much of the resources at my hosting company, and my hosting company disabled our Tractorpoint Database. Another usage violation and we will be in the penalty box again, this time indefinitely.
In an effort to reduce resource consumption the following features have been disabled:
1)"who is online feature"
2) the "recent posts drop down"
3) the "hot topics "
4) the jump to forum and board
We don't yet know if these changes will even begin to keep us out of the penalty box.
To continue to operate and improve the site, as well as to activate the disabled features we need more Premium Subscriptions and renewals.
Please consider renewing your membership today. Your contributions will help us move to a larger hosting environment.
Regards,
Dennis

KT,
You can renew your membership for increments of 12 months from the current expiration date by going to "myProfile" and selecting the "renew" menu item.

I am not sure that these changes will keep us in the green zone on this, would be great if it were that simple!

SG8NUC,
Tractorpoint (me) periodically reviews membership activities and I make modifications/upgrades as a reward to select members in recognition of their valuable contributions.

Contributions might be a good idea. There's a non-tractor site I visit frequently that is totally free and probably uses more bandwidth and storage than tractorpoint. They have a contribution link. When funds get low the word spreads and a lot of people contribute, often enough to keep it going for another year or two at a time. ....

Is this site custom programmed, or a canned software package? While I won't miss the features - if the issue was database usage - some of them could easily be re-enabled by programming them as global server variables.
If you still continue to eat up database bandwidth, let me know and I'll see if I can offer any assistance.

Jason,
The site is custom programmed by me, and yes I have considered some alternatives for some features that are significantly lower overhead than the current approach, just takes time to implement, one of those commodities I am running short on.

Dennis,
Process went well once you provided the simple link.
I agree with Mark on the site loading faster and such.
I realize this is a tractor first site but for advertisters, it seems hard to find the seed companies and that is something that ships easy and a lot of us probably would use.

without exagerating, this is the best "no-spin" tractor resource on the web. If money became a real problem, I'm sure the current pool of premium members wouldn't mind if their "dues" went up a bit (whatever would be needed to cover the $$ shortage). ....

This is an outstanding forum. I get my money's worth every time I Log-in. Maybe putting something on the front end will help people understand your (our) need for assistance. I only ran across the note as I was browsing other forum threads.

Forgive me but I do have to ask: Is the mere existance of Tractor Point in jeopardy? I read and see what changes have had to be made, but if we all were to renew our subscriptions, what guarantee do we have that TP will even continue?
Please don't get me wrong, I love this site and would be upset to see it go away, but we all need to be realistic as to the risk/reward of doing what we can to restore or even continue this fine site.
Dennis, what can you share with us as to the long term viability of TP? You've had a great product here and I hope that it will continue, but with the recent changes, if not restored, do detract from its overall value and useability.
I would certainly entertain increased fees as this site is a very helpful site and is a bargain at its current price.
Thanks. ....

Bvance,
I am dedicated to keeping this site up today as much as I was when I started it in 1998.
I have just restored the "Jump forum " menus in a low resource consumption format. I am working on more efficent "New and Hot topics" drop downs. All of this just takes time and money.
Thousands and thousands of tractor owners and buyers have benefited from the use of this site.
If you have gotten value out of TP we hope that you would see the value in subscrbing.
Thanks to all members that have extended or upgraded their memberships in support of TP.

Dennis,
I for one am very pleased with the current format of topics. I find the current ones show at the top of the list and the list is much more complete than the way it was.
The one thing you mentioned that amazes me it took me about 7 years to find this site. Boy what I was missing.
Thank you for TP.

Dennis,
Thanks for your reply and an update on what you are doing to continue this site.
Please understand.....I do enjoy this site and the many benefits it offers, and I want it to continue. I felt my comments and questions were unfortunately necessary with all of the deception and dishonesty we see all around us these days. Your honesty, commitment and diligence in providing a quality product are refreshing and reassuring.
I wish you and this site the best and I will reiterate once again....I would be very willing to pay considerably more than I am paying for membership to this great site. It is well worth more than you are currently charging.
I must say though I do like the new and hot topic drop downs if you can find a way and the time to restore those helpful tools.
I will extend my membership right now as a result of your response.
Thanks,
Brian ....
